Your Morning Routine can make or break your Day

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

The alarm goes off, I push snooze and go back to sleep. I hear the kids arguing in the kitchen and I drag myself out of bed to see what the problem is. After tearing them apart, I quickly make breakfast, pack lunches, find shoes, yell at the kids to hurry up, put them in the car and drive to school. I get home and finally eat breakfast myself, pick up and get ready for the day.

It’s now almost 10:00am. And I have to pick up my son at 1:00pm. – What the Heck?!! Where am I going to find the time to get everything done!

This used to be how I operated. I was frazzled from the moment I woke up, trying to hustle and get things done. But after reading a few books and learning from other powerful Entrepreneur Rockstars – I knew I had to change. And it all started with my morning routine.

It wasn’t easy, all new habits take time to stick. But this one thing has made a HUGE difference in my life and created the BLISS I was looking for.

Here are my 7 tips on how to start your morning with intention and to calm the chaos around you:

1. Wake up EARLIER!

I know, you may be saying that you already wake up early or maybe you’re telling yourself “I’m not a morning person” (that was me). Here’s the thing – it’s not about what TIME you wake up, but more about giving yourself EXTRA time in your day to start it off right. Also, for all you mamas out there, if you can wake up an hour before your kiddos – it will make a HUGE difference in your day! It’s starting your day on your terms and not being thrown into the hustle and bustle.

2. Drink Water

We all know that drinking water is so important, and most of us don’t get enough water in our day. Have a goal to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. But also, have glass of water in your room or by your bed to drink first thing in the morning. You’ve just been asleep for (hopefully) 8+ hours and your body is dehydrated. Drinking a full glass of water first thing in the morning will help your energy and get your body ready for your day.

3. Feed Your Mind

Most of you boss babes already know how important personal development is. What are you reading or listening to that is helping you to become the person you need to be for yourself, your family and your business? Taking time in the morning to get inspired, motivated or to even learn a new skill is going to be so important. It’s getting your mind in the right place for a productive and successful day. I do all the things - read books, listen to audio books and listen to podcasts. The GREAT thing about audio is you can multi-task when listening. The BAD thing about audio is you can multi-task when listening. I love to listen when I’m working out, getting ready for the day or driving in the car. BUT it’s still a good idea to find time where you can spend even just a few minutes completely focused on what you’re learning.

4. Journal

This can be done with your morning routine or in the evening. But I like to first write at least 5 things I’m grateful for that day. Staying in Gratitude is one of the best ways for you to stay in your Bliss. Also giving yourself time to write ideas and get creative, it can even be a list of things you need to get done that day. When we can get all the thoughts out of our head and onto paper, it allows us to be more focused and room for new ideas to enter. (Need a Gratitude Journal? Hop over to our SHOP and grab yours!)

5. Be Quiet

Does silence make you uncomfortable? There’s so much noise and chaos in our daily lives we get used it, but we need time to just be still. Whether you’re meditating or praying, spending a few minutes in the morning quiet allows for the inspiration, creativity and gratitude to come flowing in.

6. Eat Healthy

Whether you are a breakfast-eater or not, making choices that fuel your body is so important. Lots of sugar and carbs in the morning will slow you down, so make healthy choices to give you the energy you need for a blissful day.

7. Move Your Body

Exercise – can be a bad word for me sometimes. It’s usually connected with DIET or needing to lose that baby fat. But shifting my mindset and removing the end goal from it has helped tremendously. Now, I just make sure I move my body for at least 15-20 minutes every morning. Sometimes it’s a walk, doing yoga, putting on a workout video, right now it’s swimming laps – whatever it is to get the heart pumping and the blood flowing through the body.

Start today with committing to make just one change in your morning routine. Be consistent with that one thing and then add another. Trying to implement too many changes at once can be hard – and you want to be successful. What are you going to start doing to take back control of your day?
